What is Mobile Money?

Connecting millions of people in the 'informal' economy to the 'formal' economy results in a huge spurt of sustainable economic growth*. The mobile network provides the infrastructure for this development. Suddenly, all sorts of transactions become possible, a wider market becomes available for goods, better informed decisions are made and travel time is saved.

What is Needed?

A partnership with the team that knows how to do it.

A single, secure and flexible transactions platform for the many mobile services each person may have.

This is New, Choose Carefully

Mobile money is still a new market, with a lot of noise and many initiatives, but only a small number of successes.

Choosing the partner that can combine technology and business is vital. Mobile money is extremely demanding on both; to deliver reliable services, robust operations and, perhaps most importantly, well managed and well supported Agents. Broad distribution, good cash management and close support ensures national availability on a local level, providing high levels of trust and liquidity.

Our work on M-PESA has demonstrated not just the benefits for the individual and the scale of the business opportunity, but also the size of the problem facing the financial and telecommunications communities. The scale of M-PESA’s success and the resulting dominance of Safaricom in the Kenyan market have led Financial Regulators and Central Banks in many regions to be wary of a single Mobile Network Operator (MNO) led model in their own country. However, the undoubted success of M-PESA in addressing a vital socio-economic need for Kenya means that these same regulators are working hard to find ways to deliver similar changes within their own markets.

Mobile money must evolve again in order to address the global need and the opportunity is there now. We are uniquely placed to deliver; to find out more about how, contact us.
